Litcham Common Ponies Arrive at Grimston
![]() Four ponies have been purchased and at the moment are being looked after by the Norfolk Wildlife Trust at Grimston Warren nature reserve. They will be brought to Litcham once the north-west half of the common has been made stock proof at the end of May. The Management Committee is keen to include the local community in the grazing project as much as possible and is pleased that Litcham Primary School has shown an interest. Anyone else who would like to help, or has questions or comments, is asked to speak to a member of the Management Committee. >more information and pictures... >More about the fencing proposals and the answers to some Frequently Asked Questions. BEWARE! Bogus Callers
REPORT ALL INCIDENTS OF ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOURPlease be carefull who you answer the door to, you could be the next bogus caller victim. Two men are calling saying they are water board officials, one keeps the occupier talking whilst the other steals cash. Also in the Horningtoft area, the fish scam is being perpetrated on unsuspecting people, where substandard, sub weight fish is being sold from a van at inflated prices. Any details, please pass to trading standards. Anti-Social Behavior and Homewatch At a recent meeting attended by the local Police Community Support Officer, Litcham Homewatch discussed the increasing incidents of anti-social behaviour in Litcham. It was concluded that many incidents were going unreported and if the Police were to act on the matter, as they did last year in Dunham, this had to improve. In the past the Police have appeared indifferent to reports of minor incident but this had changed and both the Police and Breckland District Council are keen to stamp out anti-social behaviour Everyone agreed that Homewatch had a major part to play in this. Can I therefore encourage all residents to; or indeed any other suspicious or criminal behaviour to:

There has been a tremendous response to the re-launch of our oil syndicate – we now have just over 100 members drawn from Little Dunham and surrounding villages. We placed our first order in March with just over a third of the members needing oil and collectively we saved over £2080. A most promising start! The continued success of the syndicate will be in having enough members to generate a sufficiently large order each quarter therefore please help spread the word and contact me if you are interested in joining us. (Remember it is FREE to join.) The next order will be placed on 25th June therefore please let me have your requirements by 24th at the latest. (Remaining deadlines for 2008 are: 25th September and 10th December with orders by the day before.) the April meeting, attended by 7 Councillors, District Councillor
Kiddle Morris and one member of the public, the following was
considered:
Highways/Traffic Matters. Norfolk County Council Highways are to be contacted regarding a pot hole in Lexham Road, a dropped manhole cover in Lexham Road, the poor state of Tittleshall Road and Dereham Road and the pavement on the corner of Lexham road and Pound Lane. Norfolk County Council are to be contacted again regarding the possible placing of bollards outside the Post Office as the current information received seems to contradict that received in 2006. Planning. Applications: The members raised no objection to the application for a new dwelling and garage on the land adjacent to 19 Wellingham Road but would prefer to have the front of the property on the same axis as the adjacent properties and parallel to the road. The members objected to the new cottage style dwelling on the land adjacent to Rose Cottage Weasenham Road as they felt that the size of property was too large for the plot and that safety would be compromised when accessing the road. The members also objected to the application for the siting of a garden shed at Southery Cottage Tittleshall road as the visual impact of this was detrimental to the area. Decisions. The members noted that permission had been granted for the garage at New Inn Cottage Dereham Road but the previous application for a dwelling on the land adjacent to 19 Wellingham Road had been refused. A lengthy discussion took place on the Minerals and Waste Consultation paper from Norfolk County Council and it was agreed to object to the two sites in the Litcham area. Finance. Payments for the Clerk’s salary, the maintenance of the Village sign a donation to the Jubilee hall, membership of the Norfolk County Association of Parish and Town Councils and the fee for the external audit were all approved. The rent for Long Meadow has now become overdue and the Clerk is to write to the tenant to remind of the contract timescale. Other Matters. A further supply of questionnaires was distributed for the registering of the Green. In the time allotted for public questions one parishioner raised the issue of the seat on the Green. At the moment the Parish Council have not confirmed to the landlord the actions it is going to take. It was agreed not to place any slabs on the Green in front of the seat at this point in time. As no volunteer has come forward for a Community Emergency Coordinator for Litcham the Clerk was appointed. Litcham Common Conservation Group: The next task for the conservation group will take place on Saturday 10th May, starting at 10.00 am and meeting in the car park.
