LITCHAM PARISH COUNCIL
At the July Parish Council meeting,
attended by five Councillors, County and District Councillor Kiddle
Morris, and three members of the public the following was considered:
Registration of The Green. the consultation period ends on 16 July and no further correspondence had been received. Highways/Traffic Matters: Several white lines need refreshing and these are to be reported to Norfolk County Council together with the problem of the verge on Back Lane which needs cutting and Back Lane also needs sweeping. The surface of Mileham Road has become smooth and the Highways Department is to be requested to re-surface it. The barrier at the rear of Kepple Close has been erected. Village Sign: the sign is to be removed in the next week to be refurbished and repainted. Speedwatch: the training has been confirmed for 14 July and there is likely to be 14 people attending which includes several volunteers from Tittleshall. Heritage Map: the new map is in the process of being printed with all the amendments requested after the last meeting. Village Fair 2010: the fair was a success and although no one was present to report on the exact amount raised it is believed to be about £2500. Emergency Plan: over fifty questionnaires had been returned and the Clerk is to collate all the comments. War Memorial: The community payback team had cleaned the memorial except the top cross. It was agreed not to request a professional cleaning company to do any further work on the memorial during this year. Planning. No objection was raised to the extension of time limit to pp 3Pl/2007/0585/F to demolish existing kitchen addition and store and erect 2 storey annex at Lime Kiln House Back Lane or to the installation of a ménage for personal use and change of use of land from grazing to ménage at Litcham Farm House Tittleshall Road. Permission had been granted for the relocation of existing mobile classroom and erection of a new purpose built dance studio at Litcham high school. Site Specific policies and Proposals Preferred Options Consultation. The parish Council considered the proposed settlement boundary for the village and whilst having no objection to the proposals from Breckland Council felt that land should be made available for a limited development of housing. It was therefore agreed to request that a parcel of land on Butt lane be included in the settlement boundary to allow a small number of houses to be built over the next few years. Please note there is no Parish Council meeting in August. The next meeting of Litcham Parish Council is due to be held on Monday 6 September 2010 at 7.30p.m. at the Jubilee Hall. All parishioners are cordially invited to attend and the first part of the meeting is set aside for parishioners to raise issues with the Parish Council. The full minutes are available for viewing by any parishioner by visiting the meetings page contacting the Clerk.

Youth club starts on Sunday 12th September at 10.00am till 12.00 noon
in Tittleshall village hall. There will be lots to do and there will be
refreshments available. For further information please contact Tracey

will probably know by now that my beloved Allan passed peacefully away
at home with just dear little Chester and I at his side on the 30th May
after a long and arduous illness.
TITTLESHALL YOUTH CLUBHe was a loving, funny, charismatic man who bore his lot with dignity and courage, and although he did not attend church was always in the background supporting all I did. This was reflected in the wonderful attendance at his funeral with over 100 people in church and our clergy. He would have been chuffed. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all the cards, flowers and good wishes you sent me, and the continuing support from loving neighbours. Almost £600 was collected in church. My eternal and grateful thanks to Dr Brown, Dr Collett and all the staff at the Health Centre. Nothing was too much trouble whenever I called them, either on the phone or when calling in at the Surgery. The NHS are often in the firing line with complaints but it’s not often you hear about all the good that’s done. Thank you all very much. June Bevan We would like to say a very big THANK YOU to everyone that helped make our Dad’s “send off” a truly memorable one, he will be greatly missed. Also to Barry and Chrissy at Longham White Horse; the food for the Wake was wonderful and the Chinese Lantern such a lovely touch. Oh how Dad would have loved it! Once again, from the bottom of our hearts THANK YOU Annette and Paul Bevan Radio Norfolk at the Chapel Anyone
who is a regular Sunday morning listener to BBC Radio Norfolk will know
all about the programme 'Treasure Quest', when presenter Becky Betts
rushes around the county trying to solve cryptic clues against the
clock. Well, on July 4th one of the clues led her to the Methodist
Church here in Litcham where she became a key part of our worship as
she hunted for a clue which was hidden in one of our Bibles.
In keeping with the theme of yhe programme I made the theme of the service 'Seek and you shall find.' We had a lovely time with this charming and endearing young lady, and also had a bonus surprise as she was accompanied by one of Radio Norfolk's longest serving presenters Wally Webb. So now I find myself wondering how I can come up with an idea to top this one. Answers on a postcard please! Litcham Community Fete, A Thankyou

Litcham Community FeteThanks to everyone that supplied plants and helped out, on what was the coldest and wettest day for some time. Despite the difficult weather we still managed to raise £100 from the sale of plants. See you next year...in the sunshine hopefully! Kerry Walpole Tel:01328 700161, Friends of All Saints Church, Litcham. A registered charity no: 1133085 Litcham Common Conservation Group We
are very fortunate in Litcham to have all three types of native heather
- ling, bell heather and cross leaved heath - growing on the common,
and by the time this is published they should be in full flower, with
harebells, devils bit scabious and other late summer flowers well on
the way.
Read about the ponies on Litcham
Common....
![]() more photos here.... The ponies were rounded up in June for a general health check and to have their feet trimmed, and were all found to be doing well. I would like to remind people that these are wild ponies, so please do not attempt to handle or feed them as this could be positively harmful. The next conservation task will take place on Saturday 14th August, meeting at 10 am in the common car park. Recent tasks have included picking up litter, clearing paths and fence repairs, and have also given us the chance to see some of the local wildlife, such as slow worms and lizards. It has been good to have some new volunteers join us this year and anyone else who would like to come along will be very welcome. Either contact me on 01328 700045 or just turn up on the day. Finally, if anyone would like to own a Litcham bell heather, grown from cuttings taken from the common, then we still have a few available. The cost is £3 each or two for £5, available from me, and the proceeds will go toward the Litcham Church Bell Repair Fund. Tim Angell LEGS (Litcham Entertainment Group)
A
big thank you to all who supported out coffee morning in May of this
year. We raised around £70 which will go towards the costs of our
next production. As you may be aware, once we have covered our
production costs we try to give money to local charities or ones
particular relevant to individuals within our group. But more of that
in the September issue. Yes we do hope to be putting a pantomime on again in 2011...so watch this space. Rehearsals should be starting this September - date to be confirmed. So do come along to Litcham Methodist Church if you feel you wish to be involved in any way. Or contact me on 01362 820750. Judith Semmons MOBILE POLICE STATION
I
have been informed that the mobile police station is no longer in
operation. It was due to be in the village on 29th July and I was
assured me they would try to have a ‘unit place at Front Street between
0900-1030 in case you have published the dates and times locally’. So
hopefully if you went along you were not disappointed, however the
e-mail from Dereham Police Station continues; “It is unlikely that the
service will be reinstated so please cancel any previously published
timetables.”
Own a Litcham Bell Heather and support the Bell Fund Litcham’s
church bells have stood the test of time, ringing out in celebration on
numerous occasions over the past 340 odd years. (It would be
interesting to know how many people now living in the village had the
bells rung at their own wedding. Perhaps
not surprisingly, the six bells and their fittings are now in need of a
thorough refurbishment and retuning, and the estimated cost of this
work is around £30,000. A lot of fundraising will be required,
and we are fortunate that to help us get off the ground Norfolk Herbs
of Dillington (near Dereham) agreed to grow some Bell Heathers for
sale, using cuttings taken from Litcham Common.
Bell heather (Erica cinerea) is one of three heathers native to Britain, and is arguably the most beautiful with its lovely red-purple drooping bells. Bell heather is a lot rarer than it used to be, so we are very fortunate that it can still be found on the common, where it has probably grown since before Litcham even existed as a village. In the past the plant had a variety of uses, ranging from making thatch and rope to dyeing wool. Many thanks must go to Rosie and Brian Clifton-Sprigg of Norfolk Herbs for propagating the cuttings. Their skill has given us the chance to own a part of Litcham’s natural history, while at the same time supporting the Bell Appeal, which will preserve an entirely different aspect of our heritage. Bell heather is a lovely garden plant that is very popular with bees; it does best in an acidic soil and can be grown in pots. Only a limited number of plants are available so sales will be on a first come first served basis at a price of £3 each or two for £5. Please speak to me if you want to make a purchase (tel: 01328 700045). Tim Angel

We have all felt the healing power of animals, which expresses unconditional love and offers us comfort when we are in need. How wonderful to give something back. I have been a Second Degree Reiki practitioner since June 2002 and have treated domestic dogs and cats with much success in that time. Treatments are offered as a tonic or to ease suffering and are in no way a replacement for a qualified Vet’s advice. I ask nothing for my time as I do this out my love for animals, you may if you wish make donations to animal charities. If I can help you in any way please call Jaqui on:- 07759 103 035 |
